While not the first self-loading Rifle It was one of the Few examples made around the time of World war 1, Most people would know this rifle from Battlefield 1 as the selbstlader m1916 However I'm sure they don't know the history of this weapon, Made by Mauser around the Middle of World war 1, While its not know If it was this Rifle that did it The process of developing a semi-automatic rifle cost Paul Mauser an eye when a prototype suffered an out-of-battery detonation, around 1915 while the rifle did seem to work, It would only work when its Completely Clean, Making this not Useful for infantry, However it was adopted by the  the Imperial German Flying Corps, But wasn't completely adopted due to the weapon being too expensive to make and instead favored the Mondragón rifle (Thats another story). Only a thousand of these were made and are very rare to find these days.

Side-note: this info might not be 100% accurate

Better than the Mondragon I'd say.
